It's situated in the east-center of the peninsula. Its present name derives from the German Mark, that means territory in German. The region Marche, the only Italian region which has to plural name, is nicknamed the land of the one hundred bell towers. The coast extends for 180 km, from the cape of Gabicce Sea to the mouth of the Tronto. The turned engagement to guarantee the exemplary quality of bathing waters and the protection of the sea environment, has been rewarded with the attribution of numerous blue flags (or : attributing it many blue flags). The millenary Frasassi Caves, famous all over Europe, are adorned with fascinating stalactites, impressive stalagmites and small lakes.
